About Strategy and Risk

The   Strategy & Risk team is an independent team within Global Markets which has overall responsibility for:

  • The strategy of the Global Markets business, including new acquisitions and disposals and benchmarking vs competitor institutions, taking into account the regulatory and competitive environment
  • The Resource consumption of the business in terms of Capital and balance sheet, the management of our overall resources and allocations to the business
  • The Risks of the business in terms of specific transactions and new businesses, the existing portfolio of risks and the credit risk of our counterparties
  • Implementation of new regulations ensuring the business understands their obligations and ensuring adherence
  • Identification and proactive interaction with regulators on forthcoming regulations and understanding their impact on the Global markets business
  • Identifying potential operational risk and working on implementing solutions to mitigate these risks within the business
  • The Conduct of the business, ensuring the business in which we engage is ethical and in executing in a correct and sustainable manner

                           

What you’ll do

The candidate may work on the following types of projects:

  • Build-out of infrastructure tools that allow for sophisticated market and position data analysis and distribution of risk reports
  • On-going improvement of front office report tools to assist management’s view of concentration/single name/idiosyncratic risks  
  • Assisting with ad-hoc requests by members of the management team esp. wrt infrastructural design decisions
  • Interacting with a variety of trading desks to discuss strategies, and provide support as required
  • Keeping abreast of Economic Research & Strategy views and trade recommendations to help identify potential areas of risk within the GM business, and to ensure senior managers are kept aware of identified specific risks.

 

Technical skills and qualification required for the role

  • Strong academic quantitative background including mathematics, statistics, AND programming skills
  • Programming skills must include R-Script (or similar) , Javascript, some database and knowledge of Excel/VBA is a requirement; Python and/or PHP a plus
  • Some knowledge or experience in either portfolio management, risk management, and/or asset management {finance degree not required!}
  • Personal investment experience a plus
  • Some knowledge of fixed income products and credit related products is ideal
  • Capability to grasp and learn new concepts quickly, and a creative mindset and approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to prioritise work thoughtfully and multi-task efficiently to deliver a variety of tasks and objectives in a fast paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills – openness of communication and being proactive in contributing new ideas around any aspect of the team’s broad range of responsibilities a key attribute.
  • Ongoing product knowledge development.
