VIE contract in Madrid - September 2018

Work environment

The Energy, Resources & Infrastructure (ERI) EMEA team provides advisory and arranging services for the debt financing of long-term, cash flow-based projects, with limited or no recourse to shareholders and sponsors, over the following sectors:

  • Power: conventional power & renewables (solar PV, solar CSP, onshore/offshore wind), and associated assets,
  • Infrastructure: regulated utilities/assets (including power and gas transport and distribution), transport (roads, bridges, car parks, ports, airports, railways, storage), social public services (hospitals, police stations), environmental (water & waste),
  • Oil & Gas: upstream (production), midstream (LNG, transportation, storage), downstream (petrochemicals, refineries),
  • Metals & Mining: primary metals to semi-processed downstream products (metals, precious, steel and diversified subsectors).

Transactions may cover the construction or development of new assets (greenfield projects), the upgrade or expansion of existing assets (brownfield projects), or the financing, refinancing or acquisition of existing assets.

ERI Iberia

ERI Iberia, based in Madrid, especially covers Spain and Portugal markets, and may support Spanish sponsors in EMEA markets when relevant. The team consists of 4 people, including the Head of Iberia, 1 director, 1 vice-president and 1 junior (Spanish and French).

ERI Iberia especially focuses on Power (greenfield and brownfield, renewables being a large part of current portfolio) and brownfield Infrastructure (transport, social, gas infrastructure) transactions, for advisory and arranging mandates. Main clients are Spanish and foreign large and mid-cap corporates, infrastructure funds, institutional investors, etc.

 

Main duties and responsibilities

The VIE will be part of the ERI Iberia team and supports them in all aspects, taking into account his/her necessary learning process:

  • Portfolio management: managing a portfolio of already booked transactions. Being in charge of the operational, financial, legal and compliance follow-up of the portfolio, performing annual reviews and processing waiver requests from clients, analysing potential refinancing or brownfield projects financing, etc.
  • Execution of new transactions: supporting the team in structuring and arranging transactions, involving exhaustive analysis of project risks and market sounding of available liquidity. Reviewing and/or developing cash flow models for internal and external clients, reviewing due diligence reports (technical, legal, market, insurance, etc.), preparing deliverables for clients, redacting credit paper for proposal to ERI Credit Committee, performing mandatory internal compliance processes, taking part to financing documentation negotiations with clients, etc.
  • Support to origination: assisting in the preparation of commercial proposals or general presentations to clients, assisting in the assessment of the profitability of new transactions, performing some market research or early origination work.
  • Support on transversal tasks undertaken by the ERI team.

 

The VIE will also be working with other platforms within ERI EMEA (Paris, Brussels, London and Milan), Risks, other Front Office teams (Coverage, Global Markets, Syndication, M&A, Export Finance, when relevant), Middle Office, Compliance, etc.

 

Key objectives overview

  • Introduction to Structured Finance, Project Finance and Acquisition Finance
  • Exposure to Power and Infrastructure sectors, and to the Iberian market specificities
  • Development of skills in deals structuring, execution and portfolio management
  • Full integration within the ERI Iberia and EMEA team, interaction with other teams within the bank (Risks, MO, Coverage, GM, etc.)
  • Growing exposure to clients through portfolio management and deal execution, and to other consultants involved in transactions (lawyers, technical and market advisors, etc.)

 Profile

Conditions :


  • To have a BAC +5 (Master degree) from a top tier Business and/or Engineering school/university
  • This is manadatory to be already graduated. A certificate of studies completion will be required beginning the selection porcess
  • To be European Union citizen and to be under 29-year old

  • Top tier schools and universities
  • Non-French candidates are welcome
  • First experience in investment banking is strongly welcome

Languages


  • English: fluency is required
  • Spanish: to have an advanced level is necessary
  • Other languages (French, Portuguese ...) are welcome

Technical skills

  • Corporate finance fundamentals (incl. cash flow analysis)
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Cash flow modelling (VBA is a plus)
  • Excellent drafting skills (English mandatory)

  • Outstanding analysis skills, understanding of project risks
